It was announced on Monday that the New York State Education Department (NYSED) has granted Bronx Children's Museum's request to be an Approved Sponsor of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE). All professional classroom teachers, school leaders and Level III teaching assistants practicing in a NYS public or non-public school, special act district or BOCES in New York State are required to fulfill 100 hours of CTLE during every five-year registration period. Bronx Children's Museum is now certified to conduct workshops and classes that count towards that 100-hour requirement. Bronx Children's Museum has been hosting non-accredited professional development sessions for educators since 2012. Already reaching more than 350 Bronx teachers, the Museum has gained a successful following for sessions with themes that include inquiry-based teaching, object-based learning, and nature play. "We are elated to be able to offer accredited CTLE hours for teachers in the Bronx," said Carla Precht, Executive Director of the Museum. "Not only are we passionate about bringing fun, educational experiences to the children of the Bronx, we are equally dedicated to providing valuable resources to the educators who engage with Bronx students every day." The Museum will hold its first accredited workshop for early-childhood educators in March hosted by Hostos Community College. Presented in partnership with WNET/Channel Thirteen, the workshop will focus on providing teachers with strategic tools to engage children in interdisciplinary learning. For details and more information about registering for the workshop, please contact Nicole Wallace, STEAM and External Affairs Director, at nicole@bronxchildrensmuseum.org.
